SAMPLING RULES
According to EN ISO 9862.
Samples should be cut out of undamaged rolls with undisturbed packaging. Materials that have been exposed to adverse atmospheric conditions particularly direct sunlight shall not be sampled.
It is recommended to take samples representing the full width of product roll so that the test specimens will be distributed evenly across the width of the product. The length of laboratory sample (in machine/unwinding direction) shall be adopted depending on the type and number of tests to be performed.
The minimum size of laboratory sample shall be at least 0,5 m x roll width. In case of rolls < 3 m wide the sample length shall be doubled. When more than one test is specified the size of sample shall be multiplied by the number of tests.
For durability tests the sample shall be min. 1 m long x roll width. For permeability normal to the plane and water flux index the samples can be smaller.
Machine direction (roll unwinding direction) shall be marked with an arrow on every geosynthetic sample. A label with sample number and roll/lot number should be affixed to the sample. The inclusion of product name and expected characteristics is recommended but mandatory.
Laboratory samples should be rolled and not folded. Folding of geosynthetic product may cause damage to the sample.
Samples shall be wrapped and protected so that their physical condition remains unchanged from sampling until delivery to the lab (without folds, wrinkles, moisture content changes and exposure to UV).
